Marilyn Anderson will discuss controversial research from a study completed by Johns Hopkins and NYU's schools of medicine in 2025 in which 29 clergy members of Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, and Islamic religions ingested psilocybin (psychedelic mushrooms) in two sessions. Most participants described the experiences as among the most spiritually significant and psychologically meaningful of their lives. These effects were sustained for over a year, highlighting psilocybin's potential as a tool for spiritual development and mental health support. Some don't trust the findings, others have found artwork in churches and other older religious establishments referencing the sacred nature of this particular mushroom.
