Pastor Mike will preach on the lectionary text, Matthew 16:13-20 in which Jesus asks his disciples an innocent question, “Who do people say I am?” The disciples are out and about, and Jesus wants to know what people are saying about him. They readily answer. Then, Jesus begins to meddle by asking, “Who do you say I am?” That really stumps them. How easy it is to speak for others–to share what others think of Jesus–but now Jesus wants to know what they think about him. That involves a decision, and as we will explore on Sunday–a commitment.
