Marilyn Anderson / The Morality of the Atomic Bomb – Given the recent release of the film Oppenheimer, let’s join Marilyn Anderson for a review and discussion of World War II history. Elizabeth Anscombe (1919-2001) was a well-known British analytic philosopher who became more famous when, in 1956, Oxford granted Harry Truman, former U.S. President, with an honorary degree. This outraged Anscombe, who was not a pacifist, but considered Truman’s use of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki morally reprehensible.
