Advent Worship – Hope
December 3, 2023 10:00 - 11:00am | Sanctuary
“Expectant Watchfulness” based on Mark 13:24-37. On the first Sunday of Advent, as our church begins to tell the Christian story once again, today’s text turns our attention to last things. Jesus anticipates the end times when heaven will literally quake, and stars will begin to fall from the sky. Advent eventually takes us to a babe in a manger, but it begins by traversing the cosmos. Neither those who awaited the first coming of the Messiah, nor those who now await his return, know when he will appear. Of course, there’s a difference between waiting for Christmas and waiting for Christ. Waiting for Christ to be born anew in our hearts requires something more–an expectant watchfulness. We never know when he will appear. This message explores what it means to live as if Jesus’ return were just around the corner.
